Non-Beer Options - Sweet, Sour, Spicy and Sparkling

It’s time to come clean. Only Craft Beer sells a few beverages… that aren’t craft beer.

We’re trusting you to keep it on the down low. Don’t call the fuzz. Don’t have us done for false advertising.

We just want to be helpful. Because we’re known for our Australian independent craft beers, but we figure you might have a partner or roommate who doesn’t drink beer (yet!). Or perhaps you’re ordering drinks for a get-together, and while you mainly want beers… you might also have a few friends coming who don’t drink beer. Or perhaps you’re a beer drinker but occasionally feel like drinking something else.

So Only Craft Beer’s got you covered with a few non-beer options.

I’m not talking about non-alcoholic beers like Urban Alley’s Urban Myth - we’ve talked about non-alcoholic beers before.

I’m not even talking about those beers full of flavours that may win over a non-beer drinker, like Land & Sea’s Juice Box IPA or Rubidium Raspberry & Rose Cream Sour by The Zythologist.

I’m talking about drinks that are absolutely not beer.

Let’s start with the classic - cider.

We know people love their apple-y goodness, so we’ve got a couple of options that put the fruit first.

If a crisp midstrength cider is what you’re after to quench your thirst on a hot day, look no further than Bad Adams Cider from Mash Brewing over in Western Australia. They source local apples from the South West region, so you know this cider’s gonna taste fresh, fresh, fresh. And the lower alcohol content means these are the perfect thing if you want to knock back a few at a time.

After a little more oomph? Then perhaps Margot from Yulli’s Brews is your friend - she’s a dry apple cider who packs a bit of a punch at 5% ABV. Margot looks to the apple orchards of Adelaide Hills for her fruit, bringing a delicate sweetness like a basket of fresh green apples, but finishing dry to keep you coming back for more.

If you’re more of a sour lover, you’ll find 7th Day’s Raspberry Sour Cider to be right up your alley. It pours a gorgeous rosy colour in the glass, releasing its aroma of fruit and florals into the air. There’s a sherbetty, almost candy sweetness up front, but the berries bring a tartness that keeps you on your toes. You can pour it into a champagne flute if you’re feeling fancy, or drink it straight from the tinnie if that’s more your style, but either way you’ll find this is a cider like no other.

If you’re after something with spice - something rough and raw and ready to rumble - then Aether Brewing has just the thing for you. Ginger Beerd is spicy and earthy and sweet in all the right measures. It’s chock full of fresh Queensland ginger - no wonder it’s a bit cloudy! - with a hit of Motueka hops, because the brewers just couldn’t help themselves. This is a great gluten free option if that’s important to you, but it’s good for just about anyone. Stick in a wedge of lime and enjoy the ride.

But not everyone is looking for a throat-warming ginger beer. So for those of you who’d like a light-in-the-mouth drink with fruity flavours, check out Wildspirit Alcoholic Sparkling Water. It’s gluten free, low carb and low calorie, but a case of Wildspirit will keep the variety high with a mix of flavours - Luscious Lime, Magic Mango, Pure Passion, and Royal Raspberry. Refreshing and light and such a delight.
